Huawei Facing Emotions App for Blind and Visually Impaired

Huawei has recently released an app that can read facial expressions and translates them into sounds for people who are blind or visually impaired. While those who are blind or visually impaired can for sure hear and sense emotions, this app could be another tool that can help fill in the blanks.

The app was designed in partnership with the Polish Blind Association. Here is how the app works.

Using the powerful camera and AI of our Mate 20 Pro phone, the app translates seven universal human emotions into seven unique sounds. Through the phone’s camera, the app scans the face of the person the blind person is talking to, identifying their eyes, nose, brows and mouth, along with their position in relation to each other. AI then processes the emotion into a defined sound heard on the phone. All this happens in real time and in offline mode.

I have friends who are blind and while I don’t think they have any problem sensing emotions, this app could still be useful. Especially if used with a child or someone who is of a quieter personality. For more info on Huawei’s Facing Emotions app, visit this link. It is also available on Google Play for download here.
