Colors on the color wheel can be divided and used in a multitude of ways. One of the most common ways is to divide the wheel between warm colors and cool colors. Warms being reds, oranges, and yellows. Cool being blues, greens, and purples. Even gray can be made to look either cool or warm. In general warm colors make you feel more active while cools tend to invoke a calming feeling. Well this wheelchair accessible bathroom by Harrell Remodeling of Mountain View, California is definitely in the cool category.

A Cool Shower
In this bathroom the shower, sink, and toilet are all accessible. First we’ll look at the shower and it’s features. The floor is of course roll-in with zero threshold. Light gray shower floor tiles match the rest of the bathroom and are a bit smaller to make for easier slope to drain installation. The shower surround is made of large bluish tiles that continue to the rest of the bathroom. At one end is a high window with a ledge that let’s in natural light. At that same end is the control valve for the shower along with a vertical grab bar. The hand held shower and glide bar are at the other end of the shower. The separation is probably to avoid being hit by cold water when turning the water on. A tall piece of glass at the hand held shower end keeps water from splashing onto a storage cabinet. Finally another grab bar runs horizontally along the back wall.

On The Wall Sink & Toilet
Next to the shower is the wall mounted sink. The sink top has extra flat space to set items upon. Below each side are chrome towel bars for easy hand wiping access. The shiny chrome of the pipes and water lines below the sink are part of the overall design. If this were an ADA bathroom those plumbing lines would need to be covered to prevent leg burns from the hot water lines. The mirror is low to the sink and at a viewable height from a wheelchair. Lastly is the elongated wall mounted toilet. Positioned in the corner to allow for two grab bars on the adjacent walls.

The Cool Conclusion
The cool colors and natural light make for a bathroom that has a calming atmosphere. In addition to being wheelchair accessible with three accessible fixtures. Maybe not ADA accessible but accessible for the person the bathroom was designed for. To see more of Harrell Remodeling’s work visit their website at www.Harrell-Remodeling.com.
