Uniquely Styled Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom by Lori Jolin Design

Pink, blue, silver, and white. They’re not colors that would typically go together and probably wouldn’t be my personal choices for my own bathroom. But that’s also what’s great about design, it’s made for the user. So if the end user wants a bathroom with some colorful personality, then it’s the designer’s responsibility to make them happy. Which is what Lori Jolin did for this wheelchair accessible bathroom.

While maybe not everyone’s cup of tea, some great design and accessibility is found here. Starting with the corner roll-under vanity. The counter surface is a simple angled piece with chrome fixtures and sink bowl. The color of the counter and chrome fixtures mimic the blue and silver band of tile above. Pink covers the upper half of the wall while white tile covers the lower half. Adding to the shiny chrome look is a tissue holder and mirror frame.

Next to the vanity is the toilet area with the same color schemed walls. The toilet looks to be of a good ADA required height. Three grab bars mounted around the toilet give the user multiple grip points.

Finally there is the roll-in shower with one of the more unique built-in seats I’ve ever seen. An organically curved seat that’s covered in small tiles. Above the seat is the hand held shower and controls that are easy to reach. Another shower head and control are on the adjacent wall with grab bars throughout. The floor and seat surface are covered in a dark blue tile. The walls are mostly white with the silver and blue tile band going around. The look is simple yet complex with lots of contrast.

Again the style of this bathroom is not for everyone. But the look is fun and has a rhyme and reason to its design. Most importantly all the functions work to make the space wheelchair accessible.
