The industry of textiles is one that has come a very long way over the course of humanity. Beginning with furs, then natural threads, then man-made composite threads. Now there are even metal threads that can be hooked up to technology. Fibers in clothing are definitely part of the high tech age. An example of high tech clothing is the BioMan by AiQ of Taiwan. They’ve developed bio-monitoring clothing that can keep track of your body vitals.

So like the picture above asks, can you spot the patient (hoyer) lift? Not immediately noticeable is it? Well it’s neatly hidden behind the cabinetry. Most patient lifts are either wheeled units or ceiling mounted and extremely functional in looks. Pictured below are examples of typical patient lifts. However an alternative is now available for those who would rather have their patient lift not be so noticeable. Reader, Kye, introduced me to this great patient lift alternative by Norwegian company Integralift. A motorized patient lift that is discretely hidden behind cabinetry.

When most people think of a walker, two types usually come to mind. The aluminum frame one with the tennis balls attached to the bottom. Or the rolling walkers with a seat and hand brakes. One issue with these style walkers is that walker itself partially blocks frontal arm reach of the user. Basically a person using a traditional walker may have difficulty reaching items in front of them because the walker is in front of them.

Last night I attended a CEU (Continuing Education Unit) course on LED lighting. The company presenting was io LED which specializes in LED lighting. One of the products they featured was Luxrail which is a stairway handrail or guard railing with a strip of light on the underside. Immediately I thought this would be great if it could be configured into a grab bar. Sure enough right after my thought, they presented the Balance Beam. An award winning lighted grab bar that can illuminate a dark path at night.

Now this grab bar does more than just shine light. The bar itself is touch sensitive so it turns on with just the touch of a hand. Once the hand leaves, the light can stay on for a preset amount of time. A nightlight feature can also be configured in as an option. Falls in the dark can be a serious problem which this product can help prevent.
