So periodically I will feature architectural design that isn’t specifically made for universal design, but the space has aspects of accessibility. Many times the space can serve as a design inspiration when making something that is meant to be accessible. That is definitely the case for today’s Architecture+Design feature. This is a semi outdoor roll-in shower by Indonesia based Iwan Sastrawiguna Interior Design.

Roll Into Paradise
The very feel of this shower is one of tropical paradise. Here is how Iwan Sastrawiguna describes the space:

Semi outdoor shower room is covered with random patterned beige tumble stone mosaic. A grey andesite stone floating bench is made on the left for seating and border. Shower room is shaded naturally by greenery.

With a roll-in entry, bench, and hand held shower there are accessible characteristics. Just add some grab bars and you would have a universal designed shower. An outdoor roll-in shower would be useful for homes next to beaches.

Things To Consider
Of course with an outdoor shower there are some things to consider before building one. First would be privacy since you probably don’t want neighbors being able to see you. Second would be weather. Cold weather climates are obviously not ideal for taking outdoor showers.

Conclusion
Even though this shower was not designed for accessibility, it can still serve as an inspiration for other outdoor roll-in showers. Because there’s no reason a roll-in shower has to be only inside.
