When it comes to the night and the dark, human eyes were are not made to work well in these conditions. Ever wonder why some animals have glowing eyes at night? It’s because they have a layer in their eyes that reflect any available light to help them see better. We humans have no such luck and depend on other sources of light to help us see at night. For those who use a walking cane, extra light can be helpful in dark situations. But one hand is already busy with the cane and holding a flashlight in the other hand leaves no hands left to do anything else! With this in mind, Nick Hogger of London designed this lighted walking cane concept.

Light The Way
Hogger’s walking cane is shaped just like any other with a handle at the top, long pole, and a shock absorbing non-skid base point. However there is an LED strip built-in along the length of the pole. This can give a good amount of light for the path ahead. Having a lighted cane can also make the user noticeable to vehicles while walking along roads or crossing streets.

Power Sources
The light is turned on and off with a button on the side of the handle. Storage and recharging is done with a platform station. The platform station plugs into the wall and the walking cane sits upright on top of the platform.

Star Wars & Conclusion
A final cool feature is the fact that with the light on, the cane would make a decent imitation light saber! Just need to offer different colored LEDs. Alright seriously, this is a another simple but effective design that can be built now with existing technology. To see more of Nick Hogger’s portfolio visit this website.
