Let’s talk about crutches. They’re simple pieces of equipment that basically are stiff extra legs that pivot under the armpits. Usually made of either wood or aluminum, they’re hardly a fashion statement. Laurie Johnson decided to change this while having to use crutches during recovery after a tragic airplane accident that claimed the lives of her husband and son. She started LemonAid Crutches and began creating designer crutches. I’ll also note that Johnson has started a non-profit that helps people cope after tragic losses like hers. The organization is called Step with Hope and 50% of LemonAid Crutches profits go towards this cause.

There are places on the internet where you can find crutch covers that go over existing crutches to add some style. LemonAid crutches are different in that they create the entire crutch. Thus making for a piece that looks designed as one. The crutches are made of aluminum and come in a variety of colors depending on the style of the cover. The stylish covers go over the under arm cushioned area and hand grip. They also offer accessory bags that are available to add some storage. Which can be helpful since carrying a purse while on crutches can be awkward. The materials used include fabrics, leather, and fleece. The fleece covered crutches are geared towards kids because of their soft texture and fun design. To see more of LemonAids’s product line visit their site at www.lemonaidcrutches.com
