Easystir | Self Stirring Pot Device

Image: Electrolux

When making a kitchen wheelchair accessible, there are a few ways to make the stovetop or cooktop accessible. First is to have controls that are at the front so arms are not reaching over the burners. Then if there’s no oven, the space below can be clear so that it’s roll-under. However a problem can occur when a tall pot is being used. From a wheelchair position the pot contents may not be viewable. A mirror mounted above the cooktop can help with this. But the wheelchair user still has to lift their arm up and over the pot to stir. A cooktop mounted to a surface that can be raised and lowered electronically would solve both of these problems but is not practical for everyone. A potentially helpful tool for pot self stirring was entered in the Electrolux Design Lab 2012 contest. The Easystir is a magnetically powered hands free pot stirrer by Norwegian industrial design student,Lisa Frodadottir Låstad.

Batteries Not Included
The Easystir consists of a two paddle base, a stem, and button control. It should first be noted that the Easystir can only work with induction cooktops. When an induction cooktop is turned on, this interacts with the magnets in the Easystir and gets things moving. No need for batteries or an electrical plug. Different paddles can also be easily switched out.

Easy Does It
For use, the Easystir is placed in the pot either before or after ingredients are put in. Once activated, three different speeds can be set using the button at the top of the stem. Now the pot contents can be stirred hands free during and after cooking. Letting the the cook work on other things or entertain guests.

Conclusion
The Easystir has the potential to help any cook out there do more in less time. For cooks that are wheelchair users, there’s added helpfulness of knowing a pot is being stirred without having to lift arms over the top.
