The industry of textiles is one that has come a very long way over the course of humanity. Beginning with furs, then natural threads, then man-made composite threads. Now there are even metal threads that can be hooked up to technology. Fibers in clothing are definitely part of the high tech age. An example of high tech clothing is the BioMan by AiQ of Taiwan. They’ve developed bio-monitoring clothing that can keep track of your body vitals.

Shirt Tech
So, there’s not a whole lot of information on how the clothing will actually work. But according to this article by Gizmag, BioMan will be able to monitor heart rate, respiration rate and skin temperature. That information can then be sent to smartphone or other device via Bluetooth. The threads of the shirt are made of stainless steel and machine washable. Since stainless steel is conductive, I imagine this is used as part of the body vitals monitoring.

Medical Potential
While BioMan is mainly being marketed towards fitness buffs and athletes, there is a medical use also. Instead of having to strap on a piece of equipment or wearing sensors,  a person just needs to put on a shirt and turn on their smartphone. Continuous monitoring is also a plus so that if a situation arises, it can be noticed immediately.

Conclusion
Despite the limited info, BioMan is expected to be available this spring and retail for under $100. How well it works is yet to be seen. But the promise of the bio-monitoring technology has potential benefits. For a little more information on BioMan and AiQ’s other products visit www.AiQSmartClothing.com.
