Since I started this blog I’ve heard comments on occasion that mention how they love the stylish products featured but are disappointed that they’re not affordable for most. Which is something I agree with. Making assistive technology products in a stylish fashion is still a relatively new thing and as it becomes more prevalent hopefully the prices will come down also. One area that we can see that price lowering some is in the shower unit market. A manufacturer that I’ve specified out before on projects is Best Bath of Caldwell, Idaho. Their accessible showers are not luxury but look nice and are comparable in price to standard shower units.

The Best Bath showers come in multi-piece or single piece systems. The walls have a tile look with a gelcoat finish that makes them durable and easy to clean. An array of different colors and patterns on the walls are available to fit your style. Shower sizes range from 3ft x 3ft to 6ft x 4ft. Beyond the base package you can add optional grab bars, shower seats, valve controls, shower curtains and rods, soap dishes, and more.

Best Bath’s accessible showers come in two styles, Barrier Free and ADA Compliant. The Barrier Free models are not fully accessible because of either their smaller size or slightly higher threshold. These models can be accessible for those who can lift their feet some. The ADA Compliant models do have a small threshold which can be made shorter by lowering the shower pan into the floor or by raising the surrounding floor. Rubber or plastic ramps can also be purchased and used with the shower thresholds as can be seen in the picture below.

Now I had to talk about the shower unit pictured below because I’ve never seen another one like it before. A shower unit with a built in toilet! Extremely unusual but I’ll admit that this can be a useful setup for some people. Such as for those who use a shower chair/commode. Might as well take care of business all in one place if you can. This would not be ADA compliant but potentially accessible for some.
