Accessible Bathrooms for a Vineyard House

First off, I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday season. Mine was good and the time off from blogging was refreshing. But now it’s time to get back into the swing of things. During the holiday season, I’m sure many of you had your fair share of wine consumption. I’m also sure many of you have had or thought about having your own Sideways adventure in wine country. In which case those vineyards and wineries would be wise to have accessible facilities. A beautiful example of this are these accessible bathrooms at the Bella Vida Vineyard in Dundee Hills, Oregon. L.Evans Design Group, Inc of Portland, Oregon were the designers.
Red Wine
The house serves as a wine tasting room/event space, office, and residence. A fairly large house so multiple bathrooms were in order. The bathroom at top just oozes of romance and formalness. The dark earthy colors of the slate on the walls set the tone for the rest of the bathroom. Rusty oranges and reds in the slate are matched on the upper walls and floor. A band of tile with matching colors is used to breakup the wall and add visual interest. On the wall is a poster for the vineyard that fits perfectly with the color scheme. For accessibility you have a simple yet elegant wall mounted sink and toilet with grab bars. Only complaint is that the mirror is not low enough for a wheelchair user. Which is the case for each bathroom.
White Wine
In another part of the house is a bathroom that has the same set up as the first but is visually the opposite. Instead of darker colored and romantic, the designers describe this bathroom as flowing and whimsical. Here the dark slate is replaced with much lighter cream colored travertine. Instead of a straight line, the top line of the travertine curves like waves in the ocean. A great example of contrast between two bathrooms with the same bones.
Stick and Stones
Finally there is the guest bathroom where marble and wood take over. Here there is a toilet, roll-under sink, and roll-in shower. White toned marble makes up much of the floor and walls. Wood makes up the cabinetry. The edge of the sink juts out deep to make for wheelchair accessibility. In the shower, the floor is made up of small slate tiles that slope to the drain. The sink backsplash is made up of glass tile along with a band in the shower wall.
Conclusion
So if you’re taking a wine tour and are near Dundee Hills, I think Bella Vida Vineyards is worth checking out. The land looks beautiful and I’m sure the wine tastes just as good.
